Choose a single wide desktop when one continuous screen suits your windows; choose two displays when separate physical screens fit your routine. WoW: Forever ultrawide support is unverified, so test your current client before buying around it.
A single 21:9 display gives the desktop one continuous screen. Two displays give you separate physical screens for the game and another window. Neither layout is a universal winner; start with the hardware and window arrangement you already have.

Check before changing hardware
One continuous desktop
Single 21:9 display
Whether your installed game client offers the resolution and whether the interface stays usable.
Game and reference window separated
Dual displays
Desk space, window placement, and which screen the game uses.
Keep current display
Arrange windows on the screen you own
Try the real client and reference window before deciding a replacement is needed.
WoW: Forever support for ultrawide resolutions and specific UI behavior are not verified by this guide. Check your installed client rather than assuming Retail Edit Mode instructions carry over.
A practical test
Try the arrangement before shopping.
Open the game at the resolution and display arrangement you currently use.
Place the reference window where you would normally read it.
Check whether both windows remain usable without repeatedly rearranging them.
Note which limitation matters: physical screen boundary, desk space, window placement, or client support.
Plan with your current screen
Use the monitor layout tool as a geometry preview.
The monitor and UI scaling simulator can help compare window arrangements. Its preview does not verify WoW: Forever resolution support or in-game UI behavior.
