RuneScape 3 ultrawide UI scaling: fix interface size before render scale

Match the monitor's native resolution, keep Game Rendering Scaling at 100% for a baseline, and adjust Interface Scaling until text and click targets read clearly. Arrange panels next; lower render scale only if the world view needs less GPU load.

Set UI size and panel placement first. A 21:9 monitor can keep chat, inventory, and action bars nearby without pushing the play area as wide as 32:9. It changes available space, not game skill.

Decision

Change the setting that matches the problem.

Keep output resolution, interface size, and world rendering separate while you tune the setup.

Settings order

Change one scale setting, then read the panels again.

  1. Open Graphics settings from the lobby or Esc menu. Note the current resolution, Interface Scaling, and Game Rendering Scaling.
  2. Set fullscreen resolution to the monitor's native value and Game Rendering Scaling to 100% for a baseline.
  3. Adjust Interface Scaling until chat, action bars, inventory, minimap, and settings are readable from your usual seat. Jagex documents a 70% to 300% range.
  4. Unlock and arrange the 2026 interface around combat, inventory, and chat. Save the layout before performance tuning.
  5. If frame rate needs help, lower Game Rendering Scaling in small steps. Compare world clarity without changing Interface Scaling.

Panel layout

Use the sides for information that can wait.

Walk the bank, action bars, chat, and minimap on your actual aspect ratio before saving a layout.

4K

Scale the interface first

High pixel density can make interface elements look small. Change Interface Scaling before touching Game Rendering Scaling.

21:9

Keep key panels close

Use the extra width for stable panels while keeping combat, inventory, and action-bar travel comfortable.

32:9

Check edge travel

Before using the full width, check how far you reach for the backpack, action bars, chat, and minimap.

21:9 shortlist

Start with a 34-inch 3440×1440 screen.

That size adds room for RS3 panels without the desk width and panel travel of 32:9. These are researched picks, not firsthand tests.

Choose the Gigabyte for the value default. Choose the MSI if QD-OLED contrast is worth the added panel-care routine. Either way, check your desk depth, text readability, GPU headroom, and return terms.

Value default

Gigabyte G34WQC2

34-inch · 3440×1440 · VA · 200Hz · 1500R

Keep it if: you want a lower-maintenance way to try 21:9 panel space. The VA panel avoids OLED care, and 34 inches keeps the format manageable for a first ultrawide.

Skip it if: OLED contrast is the reason you are shopping, or dark-scene smearing bothers you.

QD-OLED pick

MSI MAG 341CQP QD-OLED X28

34-inch · 3440×1440 · QD-OLED · 280Hz · 1800R

Keep it if: OLED contrast and motion clarity matter more than a simple, low-maintenance panel. It keeps the same practical 34-inch 21:9 footprint.

Skip it if: the same game UI and work windows stay on screen for long periods and you do not want to use OLED panel-care features.

Limit

Render scale and interface scale solve different problems.

Lowering Game Rendering Scaling does not make interface text larger. Raising Interface Scaling does not reduce the world rendering load. Test one control at a time and keep the setting that fixes the problem you can see.

FAQ

RuneScape 3 ultrawide and scaling questions.

Use interface size for readability and render scale for the world image.

How do I change the RuneScape 3 UI scale?

In Graphics settings, match fullscreen resolution to your monitor, keep Game Rendering Scaling at 100% as a baseline, then adjust Interface Scaling until text and click targets are readable. Arrange panels after that; lower Game Rendering Scaling only if the world view needs less rendering load.

Is an ultrawide monitor worth it for RuneScape 3?

A 21:9 screen can make room for chat, inventory, action bars, and other side panels while keeping the central play area closer than a super-ultrawide. It is useful if that layout suits you and your desk and GPU can support it. A wider display does not improve skill.

What is the difference between interface scaling and Game Rendering Scaling?

Interface Scaling changes the size of interface elements. Game Rendering Scaling changes the rendered world image, which can affect GPU load and sharpness. Use the first for tiny text; test the second for performance, separately.
