Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Wireless vs 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth

This is a choice between six extra remappable control locations and a two-paddle controller that includes a charging dock. Both use Hall-effect sticks.

The short answer

Get the Wolverine if six extra binds help keep PoE 2 flask actions or FFXIV hotbar assignments off the face buttons. Get the 8BitDo if two rear paddles cover your map and the included charging dock matters more, especially for a desk-to-couch setup. Hall-effect sticks are common to both.

How this was assessedManufacturer specifications, product identity checks, and published controller reviews. Button count describes physical controls, not a guaranteed in-game mapping.

Six extra assignable controls

Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Wireless

Best for: PoE 2 or FFXIV layouts that can use four rear buttons and two additional bumpers for actions that would otherwise compete for face-button reach.

Tradeoff: There is no charging dock in the listed package. For PC wireless play, Razer specifies 2.4GHz; the controller can also connect by cable.

Razer identifies Hall-effect thumbsticks and six remappable controls: four back buttons plus two claw-grip bumpers. Those are six separate places to assign an action, if your game and profile support the mapping you want.

8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth with charging dock

Best for: a simpler two-paddle map and a controller that returns to a charging dock when you switch back to mouse and keyboard.

Tradeoff: it has four fewer extra controls than the Wolverine, and Bluetooth is listed for Switch only. Windows uses the included 2.4GHz adapter or USB-C.

8BitDo says the controller starts charging when docked and reconnects when lifted. The dock suits a desk-to-couch routine if the PC’s 2.4GHz receiver reaches the play spot.

Six mapped actions matter only if you have six places to put them

Separate repeated actions from movement

The Wolverine’s four rear buttons and two extra bumpers create six additional physical inputs. In PoE 2, that can give a player separate positions for assigned flask and skill actions. In FFXIV, the same controls can hold selected hotbar assignments. The value is the count of available buttons; it does not make a particular action easier to execute or improve play.

Before choosing it, write down the controls your gamepad layout already uses. If movement, dodge, camera, and menus fit comfortably on the standard controls, six more assignments may add setup work without solving a real conflict. The PoE controller versus mouse and keyboard guide covers the broader control-path choice, and the FFXIV setup hub links gamepad and hotbar planning.

The dock changes how the 8BitDo lives on a desk

8BitDo lists two rear paddle buttons, three saved profiles, a charging dock, and a 2.4GHz adapter in the package. Its official page says docking starts charging and removing it powers the controller on and reconnects it. That makes the dock useful if you put the pad down during inventory, crafting, or chat work and pick it up for the next controller session.

On Windows, choose the 2.4GHz adapter or a USB-C cable. The model’s Bluetooth connection is for Switch, so it is not a universal Bluetooth PC pad. For a couch setup, the adapter’s placement and signal reach still matter. For a desk-only setup, the dock is convenient but does not replace the extra bind locations on the Razer.

Hall-effect sticks do not separate these two

Both manufacturers list Hall-effect sticks. That specification is not a reason to choose the Wolverine over this 8BitDo model. Focus on the four-button difference, the dock, and which connection modes fit the device you intend to use. If your main reason for buying is avoiding stick wear, confirm the controller’s warranty and exact model details as well as its sensor label.

Where each controller fits

PoE 2 flask and skill layout

Razer Wolverine V3 Pro Wireless

Choose it when your planned gamepad map needs more than two additional buttons. Keep the controls you need most often on buttons you can reach without changing your grip; profile the assignments in the controller software and verify that the game sees them.

FFXIV gamepad sessions

8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth

Choose it if two rear paddles cover the actions you want to move off the face buttons and the dock fits your desk routine. Bluetooth is for Switch; on a Windows setup, leave the 2.4GHz adapter connected or use USB-C.

What neither controller fixes

Neither pad creates a good bind map automatically. Check controller support in the game, then assign movement, menus, defensive actions, and frequently used skills before adding optional macros or profiles. More physical buttons can make a layout harder to remember if each has a different job in each game.

Neither product changes the underlying game’s controller interface or removes the need to switch to mouse and keyboard for menus that are easier to navigate there. Make the choice from the controls you will use, the platform connection you need, and whether a charging dock helps your routine.

Questions about the Wolverine and Ultimate Bluetooth

How many extra controls does the Wolverine V3 Pro have?

Razer lists four back buttons and two additional bumpers, for six remappable controls. The 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth has two rear paddle buttons.

Does the 8BitDo Ultimate Bluetooth have Hall-effect sticks?

Yes. 8BitDo lists Hall-effect joysticks on the Ultimate Bluetooth. Razer also lists Hall-effect thumbsticks on the Wolverine V3 Pro, so stick sensing is a tie here.

Can I use Bluetooth with the 8BitDo on Windows?

8BitDo lists Bluetooth 5.0 for Switch only. For Windows, it lists 2.4GHz connectivity and USB-C; the package includes a 2.4GHz adapter and charging dock.

Is the Ultimate Bluetooth charging dock magnetic?

8BitDo calls it a charging dock and documents automatic charging and reconnection when the controller is removed. Its product page does not describe the dock as magnetic, so this comparison does not make that claim.

Which controller suits PoE 2 or FFXIV hotbar assignments?

Choose the Wolverine when six extra remappable controls fit your intended map. Choose the 8BitDo when two rear paddles are enough and the charging dock matters more. Check each game’s controller support and mapping options before setting up the layout.
